Historical Society to close for renovations

CLAYTON--The Rabun County Historical Society’s museum in downtown Clayton has been closed while undergoing an extensive renovation to accommodate new exhibits, including an important collection of Tallulah Falls Railroad artifacts.The Society expects to reopen the museum in the spring of 2021.

Group to establish Rabun County High Wall of Fame

A group of former Rabun County High School players and coaches is seeking community input to honor outstanding Wildcat athletes of the past in all sports. Called the RCHS Wall of Fame, the group expects to name its first class of honorees this fall.

Free testing begins in Rabun Aug. 4

Free COVID-19 testing is coming to Rabun County next week. Georgia District 2 Public Health will operate a Specimen Point of Collection (SPOC) for COVID-19 testing at Clayton Baptist Church on August 4, August 11, and August 18, officials announced Tuesday.  The site will be open from 8:30 a.m.

14 days, 77 new cases

CLAYTON—Rabun County added 77 new cases of COVID-19 during the 14-day period between July 14-28, the Georgia Dept. of Public Health reported Tuesday. As of Wednesday afternoon the Georgia Department of Public Health reported 172 cases in Rabun County.
Out of 86 residents at Mountain View Health, 46 have tested positive for COVID-19. Only two cases were symptomatic and 18 residents have recovered.

Testing delays making a tough job tougher at Mountain View Health

CLAYTON—It’s a surreal setting. At Mountain View Health & Rehab, a long-term care facility on Warwoman Road, 46 of the 86 residents have tested positive for COVID-19, according to cumulative numbers provided by the Georgia Dept. of Community Health. A total of 18 have recovered.

Suspect charged with theft of $20,000 in goods at K&B

MOUNTAIN CITY— The theft of about $20,000 worth of merchandise at a Mountain City business led to the arrest of a man in Franklin, (N.C.).  An investigation was opened after a burglary occurred at K and B Auction Company in Mountain City on July 22 at approximately 4:30 a.m.

School is start delayed to Aug. 19

TIGER— Just as information about the coronavirus pandemic is constantly changing, plans for the 2020-21 school year are changing also, and the start of school has been pushed back five days to Wednesday, August 19.

Commissioners approve funding for Forward Rabun

CLAYTON-- Forward Rabun has partnered with Rabun County Commissioners to distribute hotel/motel tax funds for tourism development on the county’s behalf following a unanimous vote from county commissioners at their meeting on Tuesday.
