As local COVID-19 cases climb, Clayton is taking new precautions

CLAYTON—The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Rabun County increased again in the past week.  There have now been 86 confirmed cases, three deaths and 16 hospitalizations due to the disease since March in Rabun County, according to information from the Georgia Dept. of Public Health (GDPH).

85 COVID-19 cases traced to local camp

LAKE BURTON—At least 85 children and counselors who attended YMCA Camp High Harbour on Lake Burton have tested positive for COVID-19 since June 24, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH).

Tallulah Falls to place devices in school zones to identify and cite speeders

TALLULAH FALLS— Tallulah Falls Council members at their meeting last Thursday voted 3-1 to contract with the company Blue Line Solutions for a system that would provide “automated speed enforcement” in the Tallulah Falls school zone.

CLAYTON—Rabun County Chamber of Commerce President Juanita Shope has been named Business Development and Marketing Specialist for Forward Rabun.

Gurtler, Clyde debate District 9 issues in Clayton

CLAYTON—The Rabun County Republican Party hosted a debate Saturday between Matt Gurtler and Andrew Clyde. Each is seeking the GOP nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives District 9 seat being vacated by Doug Collins in the Aug. 11 election.

Clayton city council hears Forward Rabun pitch

CLAYTON— Clayton council members heard a presentation about Forward Rabun from Rick Story, director of development for Rabun County, at Tuesday’s meeting. “I just wanted to come today and give you an idea of what Forward Rabun is,” Story said.

Early voting runoff races will begin next week

 CLAYTON— The general primary runoff election is set for Aug. 11 in Rabun County.   Early voting starts July 20 and runs through August 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Rabun County Board of Elections Office, with Saturday voting on August 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Election’s Office.

TALLULAH FALLS— Tallulah Falls council members tabled the debated short-term rental ordinance after a public hearing on the matter at their meeting last Thursday.

LAKE RABUN— Since 1980, wooden boats have sailed across Lake Rabun during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. They once again came together to participate in the annual wooden boat parade Sunday. “We’re proud of our wooden boats on Lake Rabun,” said Thad Warren, co-chair of the event.
