Additional BOE public hearings for Homestead Exemption announced

Rabun County Board of Education members intend to opt out of a new specific bill, HB 581, that establishes a base amount allowed to be collected on homesteaded property and limits annual increases in those property taxes to the rate of inflation. Georgia House Bill 581 went into effect Jan.

Caudell to step down from Superior Court

Judge Chan Caudell is stepping down from serving the Mountain Judicial Circuit as Chief Superior Court Judge. His last day on the bench will be Jan. 31. He was re-elected to the position last year, and was first appointed to serve the Mountain Judicial Circuit by Gov. Nathan Deal in December 2011.

The City of Clayton was incorporated in 1823 according to the Rabun County Historical Society, so it’s no surprise the buildings in the downtown area are, in fact, historic.

Schools announce closures, State of Emergency issued ahead of significant winter weather Friday

Many roads throughout Rabun County remain hazardous in the aftermath of Winter Storm Cora.  The Rabun County Board of Commissioners announced that the Rabun County Courthouse and all county facilities will open at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14. This is a two-hour delay from normal operations.
