W.E. ‘Gene’ Houston
W.E. “Gene” Houston, 81, of Rabun Gap, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016, at his home.
A native of Macon County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late John Walter “Walt” Houston and Edna Roper Houston. He was a golf course superintendent; skilled woodworker and an avid gardener.
Gene was a member of Head of Tennessee Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and on various committees.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emily Potts Houston; two sons, Steve (Mary Beth) Houston of Rabun Gap, and Randall “Boone” (Michele) Houston of Cutler Bay, Florida; two daughters, Brenda (David) Keener of Highlands, North Carolina, and Vickie Chambers of Highlands; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Bobby (Sammie) Houston of Highlands; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, at Head of Tennessee Baptist Church. The Revs. Allan Pierce and Jim Kinard officiated.
The family received friends from 2-3 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, at the church.

Macon Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
