Rabun girls edge Monticello, clinch region’s top seed
TIGER — The top seed in Region 8-AA’s girls basketball tournament was still up for grabs last Saturday night.
Then Rabun County hustled to claim it.
With the game tied at 59, Destiny Deetz was fouled with 1 second remaining. She stepped to the foul line and sank both attempts, allowing the Wildcats to clinch the region’s top seed in a 61-59 victory against the Monticello Hurricanes.
“If it wasn’t for (Brooke Henricks’) layups or Georgia (Stockton) or Laken (Stiles), we wouldn’t have been to that point with me on the line,” Deetz said after the Wildcats won their 19th straight, improving to 21-1 overall and 12-0 in region competition.
