Sara Lou Moore Singleton, 89, of Clayton, Ga., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022. She was born in Hayesville, N.C., on Nov. 25, 1933, to parents Frank C. Moore and Nannie Lou Chambers Moore. Raised on a family farm, Sara spent her childhood on the Tusquittee section of Clay County and attended Hayesville public schools, graduating from Hayesville High School. She received her undergraduate degree in education from Western Carolina University, where she also met her husband of more than 61 years, Coach Ed Singleton.

A career educator and member of Retired Rabun County Educators Association, Sara taught in Clay County, N.C., White County and Rabun County, Georgia, for more than 35 years, the majority as an elementary teacher in Tiger, Ga. As a coach’s wife and Wildcat enthusiast, Sara logged may hours in high school bleachers across the state cheering on her favorite team. She enjoyed Rabun County sports from her unique perspective as a spectator, teacher, mother and wife, supporting her coach husband, two athlete sons and the many students and athletes she taught and loved during her career.

Sara was a lifelong Christian and member of Clayton First United Methodist Church, serving in a variety of volunteer roles over more than 60 years of attendance. Relationships were the centerpiece of Sara’s life, surrounded by those she loved whether having coffee with friends, sitting on a river bank, attending a ball game, or traveling and visiting children and grandchildren on cross-country sojourns to Texas, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Canada and Alaska. Serving a variety of roles, from consummate camp chef to co-pilot and navigator during their travels, Sara and her husband Ed loved nothing more than family and friends gathered around a campfire enjoying fellowship and a hearty meal.

Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Singleton, parents Frank and Nannie Lou Moore, brother Frank Moore Jr., and sister Roberta Moore May. She is survived by brother Jerry (Virginia) Moore, sons Frank (Phyllis) Singleton and John (Claudia) Singleton, six grandchildren (Jake, Zach, Sarah, Mary, Johan, Antenella), and eleven great-grandchildren (Elizabeth, Samantha, Jacob, Grace, Vivian, Sophia, Charlotte, Georgiana, Louisa and Everett).

The family received friends on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at the Clayton First United Methodist Church from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

A funeral service was held on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Zack Martin and Rev. James Turpen officiating.

The family gathered at the Clayton First United Methodist Church Family Life Center for a fellowship meal following the committal service, and all those wishing to pay their respects were invited to attend.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Sara’s memory to the Clayton First United Methodist Church memorial fund, PO Box 703, Clayton, GA. 30525.
