Rabun County native Rodney Coleman, 91, holds a large hornet’s nest found on his property in Tiger. Coleman said the nest was found 25 feet up in a tree on dead tree limbs and his children helped him extract it. Coleman is a retired Professor Emeritus from the University of Georgia who taught entomology. He said that based on the look and condition of the hornet’s nest, it belonged to Bald-faced hornets that were black and white in color. He added that it would have taken the hornets an entire summer to build the nest that was used only once.
