Manuel Perez, age 57, passed away in the morning of Monday Dec. 27, 2021. He was born in Ribeira, Spain, on May 31, 1964, to the late Manuel Perez Valiño and María Isabel Rivas Rivas.
His father preceded him in death. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Luz Gabriela Ortiz-Perez; and his son, Joaquin Perez.
In his professional life, Manuel worked as a journalist at New York Newsday, where he was part of the team that won the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Reporting, and The Washington Post. He later worked as Editorial Director for CNN Digital.
He was a loving husband and father. He had a love for gardening and was an avid fan of the New York Mets.
A funeral mass was held at St. Helena Catholic Church in Clayton, Ga., at 11:00 a.m. Thursday Dec. 30, 2021, with Rev. Luis Alvarez officiating.
