Community members came together in prayer Saturday, Aug. 5, for the 14th Annual Prayer Motorcade to Rabun County schools sponsored by Persimmon Church of God with Pastor Stephen Henderson.
“There is strength. There is power in our prayers,” Henderson said before leading the group in prayer.
Participants met at the Rabun County Board of Education office and then the motorcade traveled to each of the four public schools as well the transportation department. They asked Jesus to bless and protect the children, administrators, faculty, and staff during the new school year.
The first day of school for Rabun County students was Tuesday, Aug. 8. Pre-K students return Friday, Aug. 11.
At the start of the motorcade, Henderson read scripture from the books of Isaiah and James in the Holy Bible.
Isaiah 54:17 in the King James Version (KJV) reads “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servant of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.”
At each location participants got out of their vehicles and came together as pastors from local churches led the group in prayer. Many community members prayed out loud as well.
“Our prayers are being heard by God,” one person called out with emotion. Each person also laid hands on each of the buildings and continued praying for the children, administrators, faculty, and staff.
James 5:16 in KJV reads, “Confess your faults one to another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
