Rev. Mitchell “Mickey” Woods, 74, of Tiger, Ga., passed away on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022. He was born on Oct. 19, 1947, to Gernell and Grace Woods.

Mickey received his Bachelor’s degree in religious education from Trinity Bible College in 1983 and then received his Master’s from Trinity Seminary in 1984, which led to him to earn his Doctor of Pastoral Ministry from Trinity Seminary in 1985. He worked for the Rabun County Sheriff’s office for 26 years, the City of Clayton Police Department and worked as a Security Guard for the Rabun County School System.

Mickey’s greatest love was the Lord. He served as a pastor in Rabun County at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Camp Creek Baptist Church, and Mount Calvary Baptist Church. For 11 years, he led the jail ministry at Rabun County Jail and served as Chaplain for American Legion Post 220.

He is survived by his wife of 53 wonderful years Vickie Woods; his sister, Ellen Watts of Clayton, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Marsha Woods of Clayton, Ga., Denise Woods of Six Mile, S.C., and Jo Ann DeLaigle (Joe) of Newport News, Va.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Jo Pineo; and two brothers, Ralph Woods and Wayne “Smiley” Woods.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022, at noon at Liberty Baptist Church in Tiger, Ga., with Rev. Dexter James, and Dr. Scott Cates officiating. Burial followed the service at Rabun Memory Park.

The Family received friends on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Rev. Mickey Woods and Betty Jo Pineo. This charity held a special place in each of their hearts.
