Election Day is Tuesday, May 19
Advance voting for the May 19 General Primary and Nonpartisan General Election ends Friday, May 15, as Election Day approaches.
Advance voting is held at the Rabun County Elections Office, 184 S. Main Street, Clayton. Early voting hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Voters will find federal, state and local offices on the ballot as well as state Republican Party and state Democratic Party questions.
The county-level seats on the ballot include Republican County Commission Posts 4 and 5; Board of Education Posts 1 and 3 as well as the Nonpartisan race for Magistrate Judge.
Election Day is Tuesday, May 19, and polls that day will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Rabun County Elections Office.
Voters need to have their photo ID ready when checking in to vote.
Tammy Whitmire, Rabun County elections and voter registration director, said that because it is a General Primary, voters must choose either a Republican, Democratic or Nonpartisan ballot.
Both the Republican and Democratic ballots will show the Nonpartisan race as well.
“There’s a lot on the ballot,” Whitmire said about the lengthy document.
Whitmire encouraged voters to look at their preferred sample ballot ahead of going to the polls since there are many different positions to vote on.
Sample ballots can be found at the Rabun County Elections Office and the Georgia My Voter Page at https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/.
Additionally, all the voters’ choices for the three ballots were printed in the April 23 edition of The Clayton Tribune
If needed, the General Primary Election/Nonpartisan Election Runoff will be Tuesday, June 16. Voters must choose the same ballot, whether Republican, Democratic or Nonpartisan, in the runoff election.
As of the closing of polls on Tuesday, May 12, the elections office had seen 1,577 advance voters, with 1,283 casting Republican ballots, 284 casting Democratic ballots and 10 voting on the Nonpartisan ballot.
The Elections Office also saw 66 Republican and 19 Democratic ballots returned by mail out of 157 total mailed ballots. One ballot was canceled, according to the elections website.
Poll workers at the local office said they have averaged about 100-plus people each day.
