Carr
The community is invited to attend a Meet-and-Greet with Georgia gubernatorial Republican candidate Chris Carr on Friday, Aug. 15, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, 46 Plaza Way, Clayton.
Carr has announced his candidacy for Georgia Governor. Carr has served as the 48th attorney general of Georgia since 2016. The Republican was appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal as attorney general to succeed Sam Olens.
Current Gov. Brian Kemp will have completed his maximum two-terms in December 2026. He has served as the 83rd governor of Georgia since 2019.
“We are having a meet-and-greet because it is important for Georgians to be able to shake their next governor’s hand and hear directly from him,” Neil Bitting, campaign manager for Carr, told The Clayton Tribune in prepared remarks Tuesday. “Chris (Carr) has demonstrated his commitment to working hard to earn the votes of Georgians in all 159 counties. Throughout his career, Chris has built substantial relationships with community leaders throughout the state. This event is an opportunity to reconnect with longtime friends and make new ones in the area.”
Topics the public can expect to hear about from Carr on Friday include why he is running for Georgia governor; his tax plan; his views on fighting crime and public safety; and Carr’s partnership with Pres. Donald Trump and the White House administration along with border security.
“I’m running for governor because Georgia is a model for the nation and I’m committed to building on Gov. Kemp’s leadership to Keep Georgia Strong,” Carr has stated during his campaign. “I helped make Georgia the No. 1 place to do business [in] Economic Development. As Attorney General, we have led the country in the fight against fentanyl, gangs and human trafficking.”
Bitting said that Georgia has been in the national spotlight for statewide races because it has seen Democrats win statewide in 2020 and 2022. He said Republicans still hold an advantage in terms of the number of partisan voters, but candidate quality is the number one difference maker when it comes to swing voters in the state.
Carr said during his campaign that one goal as governor will be lowering taxes.
“Let me be clear about one thing-when I’m governor, Georgia will have the lowest tax burden of any state in the South, including income, property, sales and fees,” Carr said during his campaign, according to Bitting. “Georgia families balance their budgets at the kitchen table and the government should do the same. I’ll build on the smart tax reform we’ve already started so Georgia can continue leading the South in growth and opportunity.”
Carr also noted that Georgia’s first-ever statewide Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit was created and addressing the problems of fentanyl and gangs are a priority.
“Violent crime can strike anywhere, but it hits our most vulnerable communities the hardest. I’m committed to making Georgia safer for every family, in every zip code,” Carr said during his campaign. “I was proud to be invited to the White House to discuss women’s sports, the fentanyl crisis, and human trafficking. Georgia’s leading the nation in this fight and it’s so great to finally have a partner in the White House who’s willing to work with us to make crime illegal again. When I’m governor, we’ll continue to work with President Trump to lower taxes, decrease regulations, secure the border, and keep people safe.”
