MOUNTAIN CITY– Community members can show out to the Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center this weekend to see living history as Appalachian Culture comes to life Friday, June 9, and Saturday, June 10.
Visitors to the Foxfire Museum, 98 Foxfire Lane, Mountain City, can reminisce about how things used to be at the fun event for all ages from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Admission is $15 and the gift shop will be open both days.
Lunch will be available for purchase and everyone will be able to enjoy music by the band Kornbread Kreek, out of North Carolina. Parking with a shuttle to the event will
be located at Blue Heights Baptist Church, 173 Shepherd Street, Mountain City and Mountain City Church of God, 352 Cross Street, Mountain City.
“[It’s] an event for everyone to come and have fun, no matter what age,” said Jessica Henricks, program and education director.
Formerly known as “Living History Day,” Heritage Days consists of a variety of demonstrators as well as hands-on activities that everyone of all ages can enjoy.
Heritage Days allows everyone to travel back in time and “brings everyone back to our roots,” Henricks said. There will be live demonstrations of weaving, flint-knapping, pottery, carving walking sticks, woodworking, and blacksmithing, as well as a variety of other activities for everyone to enjoy.
Visitors are also invited to enjoy the new Children’s Village, featuring architecture created by Foxfire Curator Barry Stiles. Children can explore and make connections to the past while having fun in the present.
Visitors also can see how food was cooked on an open-hearth, reminiscent of historic preparation and savory tastes.
“It’s good for all generations to see,” Henricks said.
“We are eager to greet you and welcome you to our Foxfire family, where on the mountain, you’re home,” according to a statement from Foxfire officials.
