COVID-19 Update
TIGER– Rabun County Schools recently announced the school system will tighten COVID-19 prevention measures.
“Out of an abundance of caution, all of the Rabun County Schools will be on Tier 2 during the remainder of January,” according to a statement from school officials. “This increases our COVID prevention measures as we are seeing an increase in cases within our community.”
According to the system’s Tiered COVID Response Protocol, which was last updated October 11, 2021, Level 2 response results from moderate spread or moderate number of cases on campus.
“These measures may be implemented for a single classroom, on a single bus, single hallway, single school or entire system as needed based on current data,” according to response protocol.
-In grades Pre-K-6, the family bubble concept resumes with limited-to-no exposure to students or staff outside their bubble.
-In grades 7-12, more restrictive procedures that were implemented last year resume as needed.
-Masks are highly recommended for staff and students in the affected area.
-Masks are required on the bus for extracurricular and field trips greater than one hour and trips are limited as needed.
-Parents and guardians will be notified if Level 2 is implemented in their student’s class, hallways or school.
-Increased precautionary measures such as increased temperature screenings, deep cleaning in the classroom, and increased disinfectant spraying throughout the school day, will be continued.
-There will be limited use of the cafeteria and meeting areas
-Visitors will be limited.
“Rabun County Schools COVID response protocol during the 2021-2022 school year is based on current community spread of COVID and current cases within a classroom or school,” the protocol reads.
School officials reported changes have occurred in the required quarantines and contact tracing protocols by the Department of Public Health.
“We have revised our practices and will work with each positive case individually to determine a return to school date. To prevent the spread of any illness do not send your student to school when he/she is sick. A student must be fever free for a minimum of 24 hours without taking any fever-reducing medication during that 24 hour period before returning to school. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support,” according to the statement.
