City of Clayton, Ga.
CLAYTON– The project to repair a culvert pipe on Old Highway 441 beginning May 9 has been delayed due to a material shortage, according to Jason Waldroup, public works director, Tuesday.
A road closure from Saber Lane to Leaning Chimney Drive in Clayton was originally scheduled to begin May 9 and open back up May 16, so crews could work to repair the culvert.
“We will be delaying that project,” Waldroup said. He said that the contractor for the project, Attaway Construction and Associates out of Martinez, Ga., notified him that the materials have not yet come in for the project.
Waldroup said there is no timeline for when the project will start, but the goal is to wait for the materials to arrive at City Hall before announcing a new start date. He said the road closure would be advertised with plenty of advanced notice for motorists to prepare.
Waldroup said the culvert repair is part of a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) project for damage that was created in the area from severe storms during March 2021.
