A man was transported by Air Life helicopter after sustaining burns while attempting to stomp out a hay bale fire Tuesday afternoon.
The fire occurred in a field near the intersection of Highway 246 and Lamb Rd. It involved 3-4 bales of hay and other debris, according to Justin Upchurch, assistant chief of Rabun County Fire Services.
“The subject on scene tried to stomp the fire out and caught his boots and pants leg on fire. EMS was requested and responded and made the decision to fly him to a burn center for treatment,” Upchurch said.
The extent of the man’s injuries or his destination was not known at press time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
