Clayton Police Department Investigator Matt Thomas reads to children at the Rabun County Public Library Sept. 14. Chief Andy Strait and Officer Joe Munger from the Clayton Police Department met with kids and parents at the library. Officers also handed out gift bags to those in attendance. There is a space at the library where parents can obtain record keeper books and record their child’s fingerprints. “The parents and their little ones had a great time with the fingerprint activity,” Strait said in a social media post about the event. “Through community engagements, our goal is to strengthen the bond between the citizens and police officers that serve in Clayton. We look forward to many more events in the coming months. Stay tuned for the next.” At the Sept. 20 Clayton City Council meeting, Strait talked about educational programs the police department will be hosting for the community in the near future, such as seminars on preventing shoplifting, theft and reducing workplace violence.
