Road closure notice.
CLAYTON– The portion of Old Highway 441 from Saber Lane to Leaning Chimney Drive in Clayton will be closed for a culvert repair beginning May 9 and open back up May 16, according to Jason Waldroup, public works director.
Waldroup said the culvert repair is part of a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) project for damage that was created in the area from severe storms during March 2021.
“The road will be closed for a maximum of seven days,” Waldroup said. He clarified the closure goes from Saber Lane to the green Leaning Chimney sign that’s in city limits, and not the yellow sign which denotes county property.
Waldroup said traffic can take new Highway 441 and go around the area, or motorists can use Dunlap Street to Marsengill Drive to Forester Street in Clayton to get around the area.
Waldroup said the project has to have seven days of continuous dry weather for completion, so if rain is in the forecast it will be moved accordingly.
Waldroup said the city will bring in a contractor for the project and will work as quickly as possible to have the area open.
He said the road will not be closed for longer than seven days.
