In recognition of February as Black History Month and Confederate History Month in April, the Rabun Gap Riflemen, Camp 1929, Sons of Confederate Veterans, honors and salutes black Confederates.
The Rabun Gap Riflemen honored two black Confederate soldiers, Henry Winters and Thomps Gibson, who are buried in Rabun County, along with 171 other known Confederate soldiers.
Winters was a black Confederate Soldier in the 15th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Company C, buried in Penland Cemetery in Rabun County.
Gibson was a black Confederate Soldier in the 30th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Company F, buried near Rabun Gap.
