Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund
Thanks to generous donors, the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund is announcing an increase in the amount of aid it can provide to Rabun County cancer patients. At a board meeting earlier this month, members unanimously voted to increase the amount from $2,200 to $2,500. The increase applies to any client who applied for assistance starting Jan. 1, 2022. Fund president Jennifer Arbitter said, “We have received amazing support from our donors, even during the pandemic, and we are so pleased that Sid Weber can increase assistance to our clients.”
The Sid Weber board also voted to allow some previous clients to re-apply for aid. “In the beginning, we could only give clients a few hundred dollars, and cancer often re-occurs. The board thought it was only fair to provide some of our previous clients aid, if they find themselves with a current cancer diagnosis,” Arbitter explained. Any Sid Weber client who has not applied for assistance in five years or more and has a current cancer diagnosis can reapply.
The Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund began in 2007, and since then has provided more than $750,000 in non-medical financial assistance to Rabun County cancer patients. This includes money for rent, groceries, utilities and travel to and from cancer treatments. In order to qualify for assistance, a client must be a current Rabun County resident and have a diagnosis of cancer. To apply for assistance, contact client coordinator Molly Lima at the Sid Weber hotline: (706) 746-3350. For more information, you can check out the fund’s website at sidwebercancerfund.org.
