Rabun County EMA/Search and Rescue provided tips on how to prepare for upcoming Hurricane Ian which is expected to make landfall soon.
“Prepare now for potential impact from Hurricane Ian. While we won’t have a direct hit like Florida, there will be potentially heavy winds and rain that can impact power, trees being down, etc.,” according to a statement on the Rabun County EMA/Search and Rescue Facebook page.
“It’s always a good idea to have a basic disaster supply kit available,” the post advised. Visit https://www.ready.gov/kit to see good examples of the contents to have on-hand.
“We will keep you posted on potential local impact as we are made aware via meetings with the National Weather Service,” EMA/Search and Rescue noted.
According to FEMA’s ready.gov website, make sure your emergency kit is stocked with water and non-perishable food for several days; extra cell phone battery or charger; battery-powered or hand-crank radio that can receive NOAA Weather Radio tone alerts and extra batteries; flashlight and extra batteries; first aid kit; whistle to signal for help; dust mask to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place; moist towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties for personal sanitation; non-sparking wrench or pliers to turn off utilities; can opener; and local maps.
