TIGER– The Town of Tiger was bustling with excitement this past weekend as community members showed out for the Inaugural Tiger Corn Festival and annual Station 12 volunteer fire station BBQ event Saturday, Sept. 24.
The purpose of the festival was “to celebrate the history of corn in North Georgia and celebrate the Town of Tiger.”
The corn festival brought many crafts including face painting, corn husk dolls, local musicians, a cornhole tournament, and merchants selling their hand-made goods. There was also corn for sale and a corn kernel jar where attendees could guess the number of candy kernels and win the filled jar.
The winner of the cornhole tournament was Richard Dunn of Tiger.
Dr. Guy Gober with Tiger Clinic and Pam Wheeler spearheaded the event that featured arts and crafts and live music.
The festival was hosted by the nonprofits Creating Ties that Bind: For Soldiers and Families Wounded by Loss and Prostate Cancer Awareness Resources, Inc. (PCAR).
Gober said it's important to bring awareness to all patients in need.
Proceeds went towards these nonprofits and local scholarships for Rabun County students.
“I want to thank everyone who participated in the first ever Tiger Corn Festival,” said organizer Pam Wheeler in a social media post after the event. “We couldn’t have done it without you.”
The Second Annual Tiger Corn Festival is slated for Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Tiger Town Hall, 3011 Old Highway 441 S., Tiger.
