The festival celebration of the 2021 “HomeTown Christmas” Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 4, as the community rings in the season in historic downtown Clayton on Main Street.
Highlighted by Santa Claus, the annual event that is presented by the Chamber of Commerce of Rabun County and Forward Rabun is set to begin at 5 p.m. Additionally, a few hours remain for those who still wish to submit a float, car, truck or walking entry.
“This is a joyous community event for the entire family,” said Tony Penrose, parade co-chairman.
The float entries are $30 while the other entries are $10 each. To enter into the parade, visit the chamber of commerce at 10 Seek Tick Rd., Clayton weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. or call 706-782-4812.
To enter the parade, provide an entry name; sponsoring organization; contact name and telephone number; and email address. Also, provide an entry description that includes the length of lights; whether music accompanies the float; and if the entry has walkers, a band, car, truck or motorcycle.
All entries must enter the staging area at Bo James Steet at Checkers restaurant and pass by Zaxby’s restaurant and Reeves Ace Hardware to get in line for the parade. Lineup for the parade will be from 2:30 from 4:30 p.m. at Stave Mills Street and Bo James Street near Checkers restaurant.
Anyone parked on Main Street will not be able to remove their vehicle while the event occurs.
The parade route will start at Clayton Pharmacy and continue on Main Street as spectators line the sidewalks with Ramey Boulevard being the conclusion of the route.
Among those in the parade will be the bands from Rabun County High School and Franklin, N.C. As of the end of press time, 15 floats (29 entries) were registered for the parade. Walkers along the parade route will hand out candy to spectators.
Santa is scheduled to be at the end of the parade. Pointing his magical finger toward the Clayton Christmas tree, St. Nick will “light” the city’s tree.
