Visit https://www.richardskids.org/ for more information on the organization. The mission of Richard’s Kids is “Answering Christ’s call to minister to the health and self-esteem of children in need in Rabun County.” Richard’s Kids began in the late 1990s when Richard Powers, a retired firefighter, visited an elementary school in Rabun County. He witnessed a young boy carrying his lunch tray while trying to keep his hand-me-down pants from falling. Richard’s heart was touched and he inquired of a teacher as to how he might help the boy. He was told that many students in the area only had hand-me-down clothing, so there were many who needed help, according to information from the organization’s website. Richard and his wife, Sarah, formed the organization Richard’s Kids. The organization grew and in 2004, “Richard’s Kids, Inc.” became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
