2 structure fires reported in 12-hour period in Rabun

Rabun County Fire Services responded to 2 structure fires within a 12-hour period beginning on Saturday, Jan. 25 to Sunday, Jan. 26.

Rabun County Fire Services were dispatched at 5:28 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 to a report of a structure fire at 697 Oscar Rock Rd. off of Plum Orchard Rd., according to Rabun County Fire Services, in a statement.

“The first personnel on scene advised of a 2-story structure with light smoke showing from the crawlspace vents. Upon entering, the fire appeared to have started in the crawlspace in a heat pump and penetrated the kitchen floor,” according to the statement. “The fire was contained quickly, with the heaviest damage located in the kitchen/laundry area.”

Fire units were on scene until 8:17 p.m. and no one was home at the time of the fire.

 On Sunday, Jan. 26 at 3:38 a.m. a structure fire was reported at 163 Stancil Lane in Wiley.

“The first units on scene advised of a well-involved single-family dwelling. A water shuttle was established because of no water sources in the area. Additional tankers were dispatched to provide water supply from the distant hydrant,” according to the statement.

 The Red Cross was notified and fire personnel and apparatus remained on the scene until just after 8 a.m.

The cause of the fire was undetermined at press time.
