The Rabun County community came together to salute the men and women in the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and bravery during the Armed Forces Day Convoy Saturday, May 20.

“The veterans really enjoyed the Veterans Convoy we organized for them. We look forward to it growing each year,” said Tony Penrose, co-chair of the Rabun County Chamber of Commerce.

Community members lined roads and highways in the county to support the brave men and women for their service in the United States Military.

The Convoy was held the weekend before the Memorial Day holiday. The Convoy began at Piggly Wiggly in Dillard and proceeded south on Highway 441 to Goats on the Roof.

It then turned onto Tiger Connector and rode through the Town of Tiger, past the four-way stop into the city of Clayton where it proceeded north on Main Street. The convoy then turned onto Hiawassee Street and ended at the pavilions behind the Rabun County Civic Center.

After the Convoy, lunch was served at the pavilions and many enjoyed a tailgate party.
