Lake Burton, nestled in the heart of Rabun County, invites you to the Fifth Annual Vintage Wooden Boat Parade and Show on Sunday, May 26.
As the Georgia Legislature officially designated Rabun County as the “Wooden Boat Capital of Georgia,” this event is not just a celebration but a testament to the rich heritage and craftsmanship of these floating masterpieces.
With its unique design and history, each boat is a living testament to the art of boatbuilding.
Hosted by the Lake Burton Civic Association (LBCA), this free, family-friendly event is not just a show but an opportunity to witness the charm and craftsmanship of these historical watercraft up close.
The parade starts at 11 a.m. A fleet of around 30 vintage wooden boats, built between 1930 and 1970, begin in Timpson Cove and are led by the iconic Burton One Fireboat. The procession will go to LaPrade’s Marina, where the boats will be moored and open for public viewing around 12:30 pm.
“These boats are truly floating works of art,” says Andrew Harris, LBCA board member and parade founder. “We invite everyone to come and appreciate the beauty and heritage of these remarkable vessels.”
LaPrade’s Marina, located at 25 Shoreline Trail, Clarkesville, GA 30523, will be the perfect backdrop for this captivating display.
Visitors can admire the intricate details and craftsmanship that went into preserving these treasures from a bygone era.
Chase Fulbright, chairman of the wooden boat parade committee, heads this special event.
Fulbright has owned his wooden boat, “Dawg Days,” for eight years. He has participated in the parade for all four years, last year being his first as chairman.
“My first year as chairman was a great experience,” said Fulbright. We have a good group of boat owners who have been a lot of fun to work with.”
He is excited to return the parade to Lake Burton for its fifth year.
The LBCA, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and maintaining the interests of Lake Burton and its surrounding area, proudly presents this signature event as a way to enjoy the summer weather and breathtaking scenery while celebrating the rich history of wooden boatbuilding.
