Group completes Citizens' Law Enforcement Academy

A group of community members completed the Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy offered by the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office July 20.

“The Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce another successful completion of our Citizens’ Sheriff Academy. During this course the citizens learned almost everything there is to know about the Office of the Sheriff, from the office’s origin in history up until our current state now,” Sheriff Chad Nichols said.

“The participants met employees from the patrol division to include the K9 unit, the criminal investigations division, the jail division, the civil process and court divisions. The participants also got a snapshot into their daily duties and why we do the things we do.

Lt. Gerrells also delivered a powerful session on officer suicide and PTSD in first responders.  The course came to a conclusion with a pot luck supper and the participants utilizing a use-of-force simulator to actually go through a scenario that deputies may encounter while out on patrol,” Nichols said.

“I want to thank each participant for attending the course that is intended to strengthen our community relationships and to educate the community on the Office of the Sheriff in our county. We are excited to have these new ambassadors of the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office.”
