Lake Burton campaign to raise $100,000 for Food Bank extended through April 10

A local group’s bold goal of raising over $100,000 for the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia/Rabun is close to fruition, but organizers say they still need your help to cross the finish line.

The Burton COVID Response organizers, who have asked to remain anonymous, have stepped up and agreed to match all donations made to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia in Clayton up to $50,000, which would result in at least $100,000 in much needed funds for the Food bank. The deadline has been extended to Friday, April 10.

The organizers released the following statement late Wednesday:

“We are thrilled to share the great news that our call to support the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia/Rabun during this time of crisis is being answered. We are optimistic that our goal to match the $50,000 challenge is within reach with your help.

“Full and part time residents of Lake Burton and Rabun County are jumping in without hesitation to give generously. Local organizations like Anchorage, Poss Realty, Harry Norman Realty, Mountain Patrol, the Lake Burton Civic Association, the Clayton Rotary Club and Waterfall are all spreading the word and joining in the effort.   Many people are sharing the news on Facebook. We’ve received emails and seen Facebook posts with sentiments like “This is amazing” “Thanks for bringing this opportunity to our attention” “Wow, just wow! There are so many amazing people around here!” and “This brings me happy heart #kindness #together #love”.

“We are incredibly grateful to those who have already donated, and for those who would still like to help us reach our dollar for dollar matching goal up to $50,000, here is how to do that: Go to https://foodbanknega.org , click DONATE, then under OPTION make sure you click the Rabun County box. In the blank space under “please include a name if this is in memory of someone” put Burton COVID Response, or BCR. That is how we will know you’ve donated so the dollars will be matched.

“The Food Bank is already utilizing the funds and is focused on providing the desperately needed food to struggling Rabun County families.  During this, the season of Easter and Passover, how fitting that the actions of our community this week reflect our beliefs -that we are called to care for our neighbor. Truly reason to celebrate and be grateful during these difficult days.”
