Megan Broome/The Clayton Tribune. Memories came pouring in as a portion of the old Clayton Elementary School was demolished over the past week. In May 1976, the entire Clayton Elementary School building flooded up to the waist of an adult. In the Spring of 1982, a tornado took the roof off of the library (where the Clayton court room is currently located).

Megan Broome/The Clayton Tribune. Demolition of part of the old Clayton Elementary School is underway. The school opened in 1955 and closed around 2003. What used to be the “cafetorium” is being demolished due to safety hazards like mold and asbestos. The building currently houses the Clayton Police Department.
