Rabun County Primary School (RCPS) welcomed its Pre-K students on Thursday, Aug. 7, and the administrators, faculty and staff were excited to greet the kiddos for their new classroom adventures.

“We welcomed a wonderful group of Pre-K students for the first time on Thursday (Aug. 7). Pre-K and early learning opportunities for children are such important steps in the educational process for students,” said Rabun County Schools Superintendent Steven Cole. “For many of these students it is the first time in a classroom setting and it establishes the foundation for a successful school career. Our mission for this group of students is to love and care for them and establish a joy for learning that will extend for years to come. I am very thankful for the outstanding group of Pre-K teachers we have in our school system and the paraprofessionals who assist and support them throughout the school day.”

Pre-K teacher Mrs. Mary Dunham said the first day of Pre-K was “fabulous.”

“We ate a delicious breakfast and lunch in our beautiful cafeteria, learned how to use the bathrooms at school, loved our Specials class, and played with our friends on the playground,” Dunham said. “We enjoyed reading books with our teachers and practiced sitting on our spots on the carpet. We learned about following the PAWS Code (our school wide PBIS plan). We earned a class paw in our Specials class and talked about fun rewards that we can choose once we reach our class goal.”

Rabun County Schools kindergarteners through seniors started back Monday, Aug. 4. Tallulah Falls School had its first day Monday, Aug. 11, while Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School starts back Wednesday, Aug. 20.
