Rabun COVID numbers are trending downward

There was some good news in the latest batch to COVID-19 data released by the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH).

The number of new cases in Rabun County continues to trend downward, and no new deaths have been reported in the past week.

As of Monday, the 7-day rolling average number of new COVID-19 cases in Rabun County was 4.4.

That compares to an all-time high average of 14.4 new cases per day on December 10.

A 7-day rolling average is the total number of cases in a 7-day period, which is then divided by 7 to obtain an average.

A total of 1,346 Rabun County residents have tested positive for COVID-19 so far, GDPH reports.

The percentage of Rabun County residents testing positive remained fairly steady in the past week, rising slightly from 15.9 percent on Feb. 2 to 16.8 percent on Monday.

The percentage of positive test results is considered a reliable benchmark on the rate of spread of the disease in the community.
