Two wrecks hours apart at same Ga. 15 spot result in 1 fatality, injuries

CLAYTON— Two vehicle crashes occurring about four hours apart at the same location on Ga. 15 near Clayburn St. in Clayton on Saturday, February 15 resulted in one fatality and injuries.

 

At approximately 3:30 a.m. Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Toccoa was notified of a serious injury crash in Rabun County, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 7,Toccoa, in a statement Sunday.

“The investigation revealed that a blue 2015 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Christian Blas Delgado, 40 of Atlanta, was traveling south on Ga. 15 negotiating a curve.  Simultaneously, a black 2013 Nissan Altima, driven by Don Cobb, 31 of Stockbridge, with passenger Brittany Chandler, 31 of Stockbridge, was traveling north on Ga. 15 negotiating a curve.  Blas Delgado failed to maintain his lane and crossed the center lines. The front of Blas Delgado’s Toyota struck the front of Cobb’s Nissan. After impact, both vehicles came to uncontrolled final rest,” GSP reported.

All occupants were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Blas Delgado was treated for injuries to his back, Cobb was treated for a broken leg and Chandler was transported with a broken leg and femur, according to the report.

Blas Delgado is charged with DUI and other traffic violations.

 

At approximately 7:41 a.m. GSP Toccoa was notified of a serious injury, possible fatality crash in Rabun County, according to a statement from GSP, Toccoa, on Sunday.

“The investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet S-truck, driven by Dylan Kelly, 18 of Clayton, with passenger Michael Pate, 20 of Tiger, was traveling south on Ga. 15 negotiating a curve. Simultaneously, a 2007 Cadillac CTS, driven by Louis Reed, 78 of Lakemont, was traveling north on Ga. 15 negotiating a curve.  It is reported that Kelly fell asleep while driving. Kelly then failed to maintain his lane and crossed the center lines. The front of Kelly’s Chevrolet struck the front of Reed’s Cadillac,” GSP reported.

After impact, both vehicles came to uncontrolled final rest.

Reed had to be extricated from his vehicle due to damage and was transported to Mountain Lakes Medical Center, where he died due to injuries sustained in the collision.

Kelly and Pate sustained minor injuries in the collision, GSP reported.

 

The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is assisting in both investigations.
