A memorial service for Wesley Avery "Wes" Dodd Jr., 56, of Cornelia, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at First Baptist Church of Cornelia with the Rev. Hobie Wood, the Rev. David Turner, and Wesley Avery Dodd III officiating.
Mr. Dodd passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born Jan. 9, 1965, in Demorest, he was the son of the late Wesley Avery Dodd Sr. and Frances Baldwin Purvis Dodd Robinson of Tignall.
As a child, he grew up going to the family home on Lake Rabun and continued to make countless memories there with his family. Wes enjoyed hiking, pheasant hunting, and annual hunting trips to South Dakota.
He had a love for the Boy Scouts and traveled to Philmont Scout Ranch BSA six times. All six times were memorable, but the most memorable time was when he was able to share this experience with all three of his sons.
His daughter was his princess whom he spoiled and mentored. Mr. Dodd adored his family and cherished spending time with them. He was a member and active deacon of First Baptist Church of Cornelia.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Georgia. Mr. Dodd was a Cornelia Commissioner since November 2006, where he was an important part of the city's success over the past 15 years. He was elected to the National Board of Directors of WoodmenLife in 2010 and had been a member of Chapter 553 in Cornelia for the last 21 years.
Mr. Dodd served as a National Representative and past President of the Georgia Jurisdiction and was a member of the Georgia Fraternal Alliance. He was the Chief Financial Officer for Habersham Metal Products and served as a financial officer and practicing public accountant.
He was involved in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and served as an assistant scoutmaster. Mr. Dodd was active in the Northeast Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as a District Committee chair and member of the Council Executive Board and also served on the Eagle Board of Review. Mr. Dodd earned the award of Eagle Scout, was a Silver Beaver recipient, and received the Distinguished Citizen Award. Despite his short time here, he accomplished many achievements, made a multitude of friendships, and created numerous memories.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Kerri Dillard Dodd of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley Avery Dodd III and Lauren of Clarkesville; daughter and fiancé, Diana Grace Dodd and Dillon Richards of Charlotte, North Carolina; stepsons, William Terrell Rogers and Amy of Suwanee, and Bradley Douglas Rogers and Claudia of Decatur; grandchildren, Holcomb Dodd, Isla Dodd, Banks Rogers, Jones Rogers, and Rust Rogers; two soon-to-arrive grandchildren, Ollie Dodd and Baby Rogers; and longtime fur babies, Champ and Molly.
