Althalene Waters, age 101 of Clayton, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 22, 2022. She was born to the late Lawrence Bud Crone and the late Katherine Mama Kate Gaines Crone.

Althalene was a founding member of the Black Rock Baptist Church. Her life was always wrapped up in her love for God, family and friends. Anyone who knew her knew that she would always ask those who she met, if they knew Jesus as their Savor. Althalene had many talents, and in the later part of her life, she enjoyed painting, needle point, sewing and making beads for anyone who came through her door. She retired from Burlington Mills and was also a published author.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Waters; three brothers, Lawrence, Frank and Jim Crone; one sister, Mamie Lee Whitmire; two half-brothers, Sam and Bill Allgary; one half-sister, Lula Belle Allgary Cole.

Her survivors include her children, Harrison Alfred Waters (Kathy), of Clayton; Carolyn Queen (Monroe), of Clayton; Dianne Taylor (Gary), of Mountain City; James Calvin Waters (Joyce), of Tiger; Dorothy Carnes (Boyd), of Tiger; Sharon York (Chris) of Demorest.

She also leaves behind her thirteen grandchildren, Stephen, Scott, Joey and Tommy Waters, Tony Queen and Wanda Justus, Shane Taylor, Shannon Bleckley, Shona Purcell, Jamie Holt, Monica Carnes, Kevin and Jeremy York; fourteen great grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren, and a host a nieces, nephews and friends.

The family received friends on Thursday Feb. 24, 2022 at the Beck Funeral Home in Clayton from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service was held in the Chapel of the Beck Funeral Home in Clayton at 3:00 p.m. on Friday Feb. 25, 2022, with Rev. Chris York and Rev. Thomas Burrell officiating.
