Clifton Gerald Kemper, Jr, aged 86, passed away on June 22, 2022. He was the son of the late Dr. Clifton Gerald Kemper and Mrs. Rosa Birt Stone Kemper. He was preceded in death by one sister, Claire Kemper Brock of Atlanta.

He is survived by his son, Clifton Thomas Kemper, his daughter Holli Kemper Mock

(Joseph), both of Leeds, Ala., his grandchildren Joey (Nisa), Amanda, David, Ashley; and Alex, his four-legged buddy Tillie, and life partner Mattie Banks.

Gerald was a graduate of North Fulton High School in Atlanta, and attended Emory University, graduating from Georgia State University in 1959. He served his country in the United States Army from 1959-1961. After his Army service, he was an FDIC Auditor Officer for multiple banks in Alabama.

Gerald was a spelunker and hiker, enjoying some Appalachian Trail time among other trips. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his reunions with his Ancient Scouts group of friends. He volunteered extensively locally.

He began commuting to Rabun County in the late 1970s, and moved here permanently in June of 1992. He was a board member at FAITH and assisted with their annual Valentines ball fundraiser. He was a member of Saint James Episcopal Church, and personally designed and created the beautiful Labyrinth there.

Gerald was loved by his neighbors and community, where he has had a deep bond.

In remembrance of Gerald and his mountain-devoted heart, donations can be made to Saint James or FAITH.
