Gaynell Simmons Stancil, 91, of Lakemont, passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, at her residence.
Born Aug. 5, 1930, in Greenville, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Simmons and Estelle Bayne. She worked most of her life as a self-employed caregiver. She was a member at Lakemont Baptist Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Estelle Simmons; and her husband, J. Melvin Stancil. She is survived by her son, Bobby Jo Stancil of Mt. Airy; her daughters, Susan Groom of Lakemont, Gail Stancil of Lakemont, and Sherry Michael (Stan) of Athens; her five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her body has been cremated and a memorial service was held at Lakemont Baptist Church on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jewell Gaines and Jim McGahee officiating.
