J. S. Hopper, age 85, passed away on Sept. 2, 2020. 

J.S. was born the son of the late James Sylvester Hopper and the late Elizabeth Bell Frady Hopper on Feb. 19, 1935. In his professional life he worked for the Fish and Game Department before becoming a technician at the Burlington Factory for many years. He loved to coon hunt, and was an avid fisherman. He always enjoyed being outdoors. J. S. never sat still, and was always finding something to work on around the house. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. All of his grandchildren loved their “PePaw.”  

In addition to his parents, three brothers, Henry Hopper, John Hopper, Buster Hopper and three sisters, Maggie Copeland, Marie Batey and Irene English, preceded him in death. 

He leaves behind his loving wife, Opaline Hopper, of the home; four sons, Rodney Hopper (Gail), of Tiger, Denver Hopper, of Clayton, Greg “Skeeter” Hopper, of Clayton, Shane Hopper (Tonya), of Toccoa; his daughter, Rita Davidson (Eddie), of Clarkesville; one brother, Homer Hopper, of Duluth; three grandchildren, Luke Hopper, Wesley Davidson, Kelli Davidson Shaw (Eric), Emma Hopper; three great-grandchildren, Ashton Hopper, Paisley Davidson, McKenzy Cash.

A graveside service was held on Saturday September 5, 2020 at the Persimmon Community Cemetery with Rev. Greg Welborn and Rev. Bill Gravely officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in J.S.’s memory to the Rabun County Coon Hunters Association,  216 Lowbar Lane Clayton, Ga.  30525.
