James Luther Owens, 64, of Highlands, N.C., passed away on April 15, 2022. James was born on Sept. 16, 1957, to the late Jayco and Martha Munger Owens.
He was known to his family as Pappa James and to everyone else “Captain Casual.” James was a land surveyor and loved being out in nature working or hiking the many trails in the area. He loved playing music and hunting, usually with one of his nieces or nephews. He also loved spending time with his special friends, Chuck Baty, Harold Neely, Ralph Webb, and Susie Talley Owens. He loved his family more than life. He loved his community and the people in it. His heart was huge.
He is survived by his brothers, Chuck Baty of Highlands, NC, Gene Owens (Stacy) of Satolah, Dennis Owens (Sandra) of Glenville, NC, Johnny Owens (Marcy) of Satolah, and Frank Lowery (Sarah) of Habersham; sisters, Mary Owens Ridgeway of Anderson, SC, Sherry Owens of Highlands, NC, and Missy Grace (Brian) of Satolah; many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.
James is preceded in death by his parents Jayco and Martha Munger Owens; one brother, Bennie Owens; and one nephew, Noah Owens.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 4 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Oliver Rice officiating.
Hunter Funeral Home is assisting the Owens Family with arrangements.
