James Mack Crawford, 74, passed away on Dec. 18, 2021, at his residence in Asheville, N.C.

Mack was born in Clayton on April 6, 1947, to parents Martin Lafayette Crawford and Eva English Crawford. He spent most of his life in Rabun County, working as a self-employed builder. Mack was also an army veteran, serving a number of years in Vietnam. He spent most of his later years assisting veterans in applying for VA benefits to aid with any medical care they needed. He had a unique bond and comradeship with other veterans.

Along with his parents, Mack is preceeded in death by a sister, JoAnn Veal. He is survived by his two sisters, Carolyn (Delmo) Patterson and Beanie Ramey; a brother, Broderick (Michelle) Crawford; children, Keri Wilhite and Paul Wofford; nieces and nephews; and seven grandchildren.

His body has been cremated according to his wishes, and a private service for the family will take place at a later date.
