Karen Kilby Hooper, age 65 of the Persimmon Community, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on May 21, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Curtis Lee Kilby and Hazel Mitchell Kilby.

She is survived by her loving husband Frederick Hooper; son, Darren (Leah) Hooper; one brother, Rodney (Peanut) Kilby; grandchildren, Eliza Claire, Phoebe Grace, and Solomon Frederick.

Karen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grammy, and aunt. Kay always put her family first in her life. She was a lifelong resident of Rabun County. She worked as V.P. of Human Resources at Rabun County Bank where she was one of its most tenured employees. Karen retired from Rabun County Bank after over 40 years of faithful service. She enjoyed traveling, playing basketball, softball, and spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

The family received friends on May 23, 2022, at Beck Funeral Home. The funeral service was held the following day at Persimmon Church of God. A graveside service immediately followed in the Persimmon Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Karen asked that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
