Nell Kirkland Bourne

Nell Kirkland Bourne, 91, passed away Oct. 12, 2021, at Cannonwood Village in Tiger. Nell was the daughter of the late C. David Kirkland and Ida Edwards Kirkland of Oconee County.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Bourne; son, Russell Bourne; two brothers, Walter Kirkland, and Richard Kirkland; and brother-in-law, George Banschbach.

She is survived by two sons, David Bourne (Sharon), and Richard Bourne (Anne); daughter, Patricia Bourne; sister, Elizabeth (Beth) Banschbach; sister-in-law, Charlie Kirkland; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Nell was a member of the Tiger United Methodist Church, where she and Don were active for many years. She was also a member of the Georgia Power Retirees Ambassadors, and spent a number of years helping people with their income taxes for AARP.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and particularly quilting and she spent numerous hours at the Senior Center in Tiger with the quilting group. She had a keen interest in genealogy and kept records of the family history that she regularly updated.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 23, at Tiger United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Turpin officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 6, at Johnson United Methodist Church Cemetery in Watkinsville.
