Philip Raymond Kempin, age 84, of Tiger, Ga., passed away on December 31, 2020.

Philip was born November 27, 1936, to Mildred and Ray Kempin. In 1958, he graduated Monmouth College with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. He was a member of Theta XChi fraternity.

Following graduation, Phil worked as a copywriter and audio producer for several Illinois radio stations, While working at WJRL, Rockford, Illinois, he met and married Gwendolyn Engstrom. Later, Gwen, Phil and son Steven, moved to Tampa, Florida, where he and his business partner opened a recording studio and a 35mm film processing and printing facility.

Later, Phil was recruited by General Telephone of Florida to be their writer/producer/director for GTE’s newly-opened Telecommunications centers.

After seven years with GTE, Phil opened Kempin Creative Enterprises, a multi-track recording studio where he wrote and produced audio tracks for multi-screen slide presentations. He wrote and produced radio and TV soundtracks, as well.

In the late eighties, Phil began losing his eyesight, Reluctantly, he closed the studio and retired. In 2000, he and Gwen fled Florida’s flat lands for the mountainous terrain of North Georgia, settling in the tiny town called Tiger. There they spent years enjoying the good life. Gwen and Phil are members of Clayton Presbyterian Church.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Gwen; their son, Steven, and a brother, Paul Kempin. Three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive him.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
