Richard Augustus Godfrey, age 73, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on March 29, 2021.

Richard was born the son of the late Frank Allen Godfrey and the late Icie Savannah Wall Godfrey on May 26, 1947.

Richard was an active member of his community and his county, he was a charter member of the Warwoman Fire Department, served as the Commissioner of Rabun County for eight years.

He was the 9th District Chairman for one year, as well as serving on the Rabun County Recreation Board for eight years.

He was a member of the Rabun County Planning and Zoning Commission and a member of the Juror Board of Rabun County and Vice President of the Farm Bureau Board. He was a Conservation Supervisor for the Georgia Mountain Soil.

He was a member of the Rabun Gap Masonic Lodge 265 and was a Past Master and was District Deputy to the Grandmaster for two years.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite and a member of the Yaarb Temple of Atlanta.

He was elected to top ten textile members in Georgia, he was a Christian, a member of Antioch Methodist Church and served as the church treasurer for many years and several years served on the Church Administration Board.

He also was always a father figure to his nephew, Matt Bradley.

In addition to his parents, his brother-in-law, Otis Bradley, preceded him in death.

His survivors include his two sisters, Mary Sue Bradley of Clayton, and Isabelle Bradsher (Benn), of Franklin, North Carolina; one niece, Ginger Johnson (Tom), of Franklin and two nephews, Matt Bradley (Nicole), of Franklin, North Carolina and Tim Bradsher (Amy), of Mt. Vernon, Texas.

The family will receive friends on Thursday April 1, 2021 from 2-3 p.m. at the Beck Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday April 1, 2021 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of the Beck Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Krivsky and Pastor Brandon Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow the service at the Antioch Methodist Cemetery in Clayton, Georgia.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Richard’s memory to the Antioch Methodist Church.
