Sarah Catherine Griffin Suttles passed away peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 22, 2022. Sarah was born in Hahira on July 13, 1937, to William Howard and Carrie Mae Kelly Griffin. She was the fourth of five children.

Sarah attended South Georgia State College in Douglas, Ga., from 1955 to 1956. While there she met her future husband, Drew Waldrop Suttles, Jr. They were married in 1956. Sarah and Drew resided in Decatur, St. Simons Island, and Tucker. In later years, Sarah divided her time between St. Simons Island and Clayton.

Sarah was employed by Eastern Airlines in the reservations department from 1968 to 1984. She moved into airline reservation analysis at SITA Corporation in 1984 and stayed there until retirement.

Sarah loved to travel. She traveled the world with SITA and enjoyed traveling for pleasure. One of her most memorable trips was two weeks in Wales with her son Dave, researching her ancestors and exploring the towns they were from.

Sarah was an avid painter with a deep love of the Impressionists. She painted with oils, watercolors, and acrylics. Sarah loved to read and could sit happily for hours with a good book. Sarah loved animals. She could never pass a homeless dog or cat without adopting it herself or helping find it a home.

Sarah is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Katherine Ann Suttles; her brothers, Harvey Griffin and William Billy Griffin; and her sister, Mildred Griffin McGill. Sarah is survived by her son David (Bryan) H. Suttles; her brother, Harold Griffin; her two grandsons, Brett K. Wadrip and Adam A. Marris; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Sarah was known for her devotion to family and friends. She would always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She was compassionate, caring, and selfless. She will be missed!
