Vaughndell (Vaughn) Stancil , age 74, went out peacefully to meet his Lord and Savior on Jan. 7, 2020.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1945 in Rabun County, Ga., four minutes ahead of his twin brother, Don. He lived his entire life in the Chechero community.

In his early life he was an avid player in sports, especially softball, baseball and bowling. He coached several women’s softball teams in the county. He and his twin brother won many trophies bowling. Vaughn also loved to watch football and to fish. In the late 1970s, he and his brother Don got saved. They both gave up playing sports and gave up the rest of their lives to serving the Lord. Vaughn answered the call to preach and pastored Pleasant Hill Baptist, Camp Creek Baptist and later Boggs Mountain Baptist Church for a number of years. He also ram several revivals in a number of churches in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Unfortunately, he lost his brother Don at the age of 40, which left a terrible void in his life. They were like partners in serving the Lord. When you saw one, the other would not be far behind. They enjoyed gospel singings, revivals and anything pertaining to the church. Neither one was shy about shouting praises to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

After retiring, he was often called to fill in for various pastors at several churches for Sunday services in the surrounding areas. Vaughn and Don both worked at Foodland and Winn-Dixie. Later, Vaughn worked at Bi-Lo, Piggly Wiggly and finally Ingles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wofford Stancil and Jessie Ramey Stancil; his twin brother Donald Stancil and brother Lamar Stancil.

He is survived by his only sister, Clara Stancil Young-Carnes of the home. He is also survived by one niece, Diana Lynne Mixon (Tommy), one nephew, Timothy Lee Young (Liz), two great-nephews, Justin McClure (Ami) of Atlanta, Ga., Sean Young, four great nieces, Jamie Landrum of Alaska, Tracey Reed (Jason) of Winder, Ga., Natosha Young, Maisy Young. He is also survived by many great-great nieces and nephews. He loved them all and they truly loved him.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020 at Chechero Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Wilson and Rev. Danny Cannon conducting the service. Burial was at Dixon Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all the CNAs, nurses and staff at Mountain View Care Center and the Pruitt Hospice staff for their compassion and care for Vaughn during this time in his life.
