Long-time Rabun coach, teacher Wayne passes

A fixture in Rabun County for decades and beloved by the community, Janice Wayne passed away on Wednesday, June 24, at the age of 72. Wayne – who many will remember as “Coach Wayne” – moved to Rabun County in 1976 and spent 38 years as a teacher and coach in the Rabun County School District.

Rabun County girls basketball hosts Lady Cats basketball camp

The Rabun County girls basketball program hosted its annual Lady Cats basketball camp this week at the Rabun County Recreation Department for girls aged pre-K through seventh grade. Over 100 potential future LadyCats were in attendance during the three-day camp.

RCHS hoops earn All-State honors

With basketball season officially over, the honors have rolled in for the Rabun County boys and girls basketball teams.

Lady Cats fall in Elite 8 to Thomasville, 46-44

THOMASVILLE – The No. 7-seeded Rabun County girls basketball team had its season come to an end on Tuesday night on the road in the Elite Eight at the hands of No. 2 Thomasville, 46-44.

Rabun girls hoops defeats Model to advance to Elite Eight

TIGER – The Rabun County girls basketball team kept its postseason run alive last Friday, Feb. 27, with a 56-43 win over visiting Model, advancing the Lady Cats to the Elite Eight for the second straight year.

Lady Cats ‘Sweet’ roll past Armuchee

TIGER – The No. 7-seeded Rabun County girls basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 on Tuesday night in dominant fashion, defeating visiting No. 26 Armuchee, 63-42. In the Feb. 24 victory, the Lady Cats got off to a fast start, overwhelming the Indians on both ends of the floor and on the glass.

Lady Cats fall in region title game

DEMOREST – The Rabun County girls basketball team fell in the region championship game to No. 2 seed Athens Academy, 50-38 on Feb. 20 at Piedmont University. The loss dropped the Lady Cats to 22-5 on the season and was their first loss to the Spartans after sweeping the regular season series.

Lady Cats roll past Commerce, Oglethorpe County

TIGER – The No. 5-ranked Rabun County girls basketball team added to its winning streak last week, completing the regular season with three straight victories to push its winning streak to seven in a row right before postseason play.

Rabun basketball stays hot with home victories over Banks

The state-ranked Rabun County girls and boys basketball teams continued their winning streaks on Tuesday night with victories over region-rival Banks County. The Lady Cats held off a comeback attempt by Banks in the fourth quarter after leading for the majority of the game to win 52-46.  The No.

RCHS hoops splits home stand

TIGER – The Rabun County boys and girls basketball teams were back at home on Tuesday night, Jan. 20, as the hometown squads split against region opponent Elbert County. The Lady Wildcats fell to the Blue Devils, 54-49, sliding to 14-4 on the season.
