Clayton Crawl this weekend

CLAYTON— Let the good times crawl in the fall for the 11th annual Clayton Crawl this Saturday, Sept. 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“We started the crawl 11 years ago to bring people to Main Street and to show them all the great shops and things we have in downtown. And as a way to showcase our great restaurants,” said Jenny Wilson, owner of the restaurant Fromage & Other Fine Foods.

The beer, wine and food festival will take place on Main Street and showcase wine and beer from Tiger Mountain Vineyards, Currrahee Brewery, Highland Brewing Co., Lazy Hiker and Nobel Cider.

“[You] buy a glass that is $25 and you use that to sample all the beer and wine at the crawl,” Wilson said.

Wilson said that a glass has to be purchased in order to taste the wine and beer, and that non-alcoholic drinks will be available.

However, there is no admission fee to walk on Main Street and participants should bring their own chairs to the event.

The event will also feature live music from Scott Low and Southern Highland.

Food can be purchased directly from the restaurant tents with cash and those featured include Farm to Cocktail, Fromage & Other Fine Foods, Ishy’s Grill, Lake Rabun Hotel, Mama G’s, Manrique’s Mexican Restaurant, Sunday Diner, Universal Joint and White Birch Provisions.

Wilson said that the event has been held in July the last 10 years, but they decided to move it to September because it is a slower time for restaurants and the weather is cooler.

“[We were] hoping it would make an easier time for restaurants,” Wilson said.

Wilson said that Main Street will close from The Rock House to the Post Office at 3 p.m. and will be reopened to traffic after the road is cleared and cleaned from the event.

“It’s always a rain or shine event,” Wilson said, but predicts that the weather will be nice this year.

She said that money made goes to scholarships and the Clayton Merchants and Business Association (CMBA) beautification fund.

“We’re really excited and we’re really excited about the change of season,” Wilson said.
