CLAYTON– Nonprofit night at Currahee Brewing Company brought in $4,100 for Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund as community members showed out May 4 to support the cause.

Ken Walton, Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund president, thanked everyone who showed out to support Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund and said he was thrilled with the fundraising effort.

Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund began in 2005 to assist cancer patients in Rabun County with non-medical expenses up to $2,500. The only qualifications are to have a diagnosis of cancer and live in Rabun County.

All tips from nonprofit night went to the organization. Guest “beertenders” were Clayton Mayor Kurt Cannon, Clayton City Manager Trudy Crunkleton, and Sky Valley Mayor Hollie Steil.

Blue Jazz played music and The Shed food truck provided food.

“What a night! Thank you to everyone who came out May 4 to support Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund at Currahee Brewing in Clayton,” Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund posted on social media. “Thanks to generous tips and donations, we brought in $4,100 to help Rabun County cancer patients!”

Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund will hold its annual barbeque on July 3 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Sky Valley Country Club pavilion, located on Sky Valley Way. The event will take place before the fireworks show.

The meals are“take out only” and include pulled pork, a chicken thigh, a bun, coleslaw, baked beans, sauce and a cookie. The price has been reduced this year to $15, with children aged 10 and under costing $8. Ticket sales are limited to 400.

The annual BBQ is the second-largest fundraiser of the year and is held with support of donors including Piggly Wiggly, Sunday Diner, Sky Valley Country Club, Pharmacist Molly Ledford, Tomlin BBQ and an anonymous pit master.

Tickets can be purchased at Sky Valley Country Club Pro Shop, Timeshares of Sky Valley, Sky Valley City Hall, Poss Realty in Sky Valley, Reeves Hardware in Dillard, Country Cutaway in Dillard, and Northeast Georgia Heating and Air in Rabun Gap.
