Election season isn’t over just yet as Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Herschel Walker will face Democrat incumbent Rev. Raphael Warnock in a runoff election slated for Tuesday, Dec. 6.
A runoff will be held as neither Warnock nor Walker received over 50 percent of votes in the Nov. 8 General Election.
In Rabun County however, Walker received 6,179 votes while Warnock received 1,804 votes. Libertarian Chase Oliver received 223 votes.
Early voting begins Monday, Nov. 28 and ends Friday, Dec. 2. Early voting hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Rabun County Board of Elections Office, 184 South Main Street, Suite 102, Clayton. There is no opportunity for Saturday voting, according to Tammy Whitmire, Rabun County elections supervisor.
Nov. 28 is also the last day to submit an absentee ballot application.
Election Day is Tuesday, Dec. 6 and polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Rabun County Board of Elections Office, 184 South Main Street, Suite 102, Clayton.
The last day to register to vote in the runoff election was Nov. 7. Anyone registered to vote by that date is eligible to vote in the Dec. 6 runoff, even if they did not vote in the Nov. 8 General Election.
In other election news, the final tallies in the Magistrate Court judge race were released.
James V. Blalock received 4,903 votes while write-in candidate Kyle Shook received 2,229 write-in votes for Magistrate Court judge.
